When a former client returns for help with a new project, it comes with an exceptional level of trust that makes the design process all the more enjoyable, and the results show it. Years after helping them with a successful renovation project, this family returned to hire Elms Interior Design to renovate a shingle-style home built in 1999, where the couple could hunker down with three kids and three dogs. The space felt dated and needed a fresh look. With thoughtful cosmetic updates—including artful lighting, new wallcoverings, material additions, and a fresh coat of paint—the home was transformed into a place of cohesive and livable elegance.

To improve the flow between the kitchen and dining room, outdated columns were removed to make room for steel and glass transom panels. Marble was added to the kitchen backsplash and fashioned into waterfall edge sheaths for the double islands. The upper cabinets and oven hood were given a punchy coat of black paint. Brass detailing was added to echo the detail on the hanging pendants and other hardware in the space. A custom walnut bench creates a more functional zone for casual meals in the breakfast nook.

Opulent stone fronts add focal points to fireplaces in the living room, family room, and primary bedroom. Overhead, a resplendent collection of vintage and modern pendant lighting illuminates the updated spaces with a warm glow.
