This was truly a special project for Elms Interior Design, the renovated home of our founder and Principal, Dee Elms, and her family of five. After giving so many of her favorite clients their “grownup homes” of their dreams, it was finally Dee’s turn to do the same for her family.
This extensive home renovation was many years in the making. Dee and her husband purchased their home 11 years ago as a rental property but then moved in themselves five years ago. Originally, the home, which was built in the 1920’s, was a two-family residence.
An ambitious renovation involved temporarily moving the entire structure to excavate and gain additional height in the lower level, maximizing living space. The home was then converted to a single family layout.
Hand-selected materials and furnishings were sought after for their unique beauty and functionality. An unexpected mix of a sun-filled family room and a moody dining room all flow seamlessly together throughout the main floor.
Materials selected such as white oak flooring, venetian plaster walls, and a brushed finish granite counter at the kitchen island, will endure the test of time with three busy children.
Dee is now able to enjoy the type of custom designed, personalized spaces she has been imagining for her clients for years, and it feels just like home.
