Beacon Street Brownstone

Location:
Boston, MA

The exterior of this circa 1900 brownstone exudes traditional beauty. Inside, the space we were called on to renovate was a white box devoid of character. Starting with the home’s natural focal points—beautiful bay windows and fireplaces—a layered scheme began to take shape. In the lounge spaces, custom millwork brought fresh personality to the interior architecture. In the family room, a window seat and custom desk and bookcase created practical space to organize and work. Fireplace surrounds were redesigned to feel sophisticated and stately.

The living room walls quietly radiate the limited natural light with a high-gloss deep blue-gray paint, a color scheme that is echoed by glass tiles on the wet bar backsplash, and a hand-painted black-and-white wall pattern in the Dining Room. Wherever you look, the palette is as handsome as it is comforting.

The built-in banquette in the kitchen offers a cozy spot for catching up, as do the two bay window seats, one facing the iconic Victorian facades of Beacon Street, the other with a showstopping view to the Charles River
