Cambridge Victorian

For a couple with four young children, this updated 1870s Victorian was perfectly functional but lacked a cohesive design scheme, starting with the cooking area. Removing an existing brick wall and chimney between the kitchen and dining room would be an undertaking, but it opened the space to expand the new custom-built kitchen with an oversized island for casual meals. 

The children’s bedrooms were reimagined with fresh updates that feel classic yet comfortable, kid friendly, and that will easily flex as the children grow. In the dining room, custom built-ins created practical spaces for the children to tuck away their books and papers, bringing crucial organization to the room. 

Dashes of vivid orange add a stylistic detail throughout the 2,500-square-foot living space, from the border on the Roman shades in the kitchen to occasional chairs in the spaces and barrel stools in the foyer. The color theme extends to the artwork as well as a spherical pendant light in a child’s bedroom. Places of togetherness were also given a lot of attention; a new living room mantel and fireplace design enliven the living room. In the dining space adjacent to the kitchen, a custom farmhouse table designed by Elms has plenty of seating for family meals and evening catch-ups.
