Wings neck Classic

Location:
Pocasset, MA

For this classic seaside home, it was only natural for the location to serve as inspiration for its color palette: a study in ocean hues. We took those variations of blue and used them throughout the home to highlight its seaside location. The bar between the kitchen and living room, lined with glass tiles in various shades of blue, mimics the multicolored surface of a sea glinting in the sun, a shimmering contrast against the serene, white palette of the living room. Even the room’s largest features—two back-to-back sofas and a sleek coffee table—are neutrally colored but complemented by vibrant accents. The floor plan is very open, so making each space feel distinct yet cohesive was important. The dining room opens onto a patio with floor-to-ceiling windows boasting unobstructed ocean views. For the den next door, a more intimate setting, four wooden and wicker chairs surround a cozy breakfast table in the corner, and a sofa provides ample seating for guests to kick up their feet. The centerpiece of the den is the fireplace, made of beach stone with a found-object wooden mantelpiece, a nod to the home’s nautical setting, reinforced by the blue tones in the stone and the room’s slate blue walls.

The kitchen, with a tomato-red stove that held personal significance for the client, stands in stark contrast with the room’s blue-and-gold palette and deep navy island. One of the home’s standout features is the library. The walls and pine bookshelves provide the focal point for a quiet escape. The ceiling features a hand-painted design by a local artisan stretching from wall to wall. The library also makes an ideal office space for clients who work from home.

The house also offers an abundance of space to entertain. To maximize the amount of sleeping areas in the home, Elms converted once-unused spaces into additional bedrooms. The second-floor lounge serves double duty as a TV room and a guest bedroom. The attic, too, was repurposed into additional bedrooms. For the primary bedroom, soft tones create a soothing atmosphere for sleep. The reading room next door is purposefully more vibrant and features a floral wall covering featuring the clients’ photography. In the primary bathroom, sea-green cabinets, the color of frothy waves shines beneath white marble. The design plays off the home’s classic foundation at every turn to combine original charm with contemporary creativity.
