woods hole retreat

Location:
woods hole, MA

Perched on a scenic point overlooking Buzzards Bay, this custom-built home seamlessly blends with its breathtaking seascape. In collaboration with Hutker Architects, we envisioned a spacious yet intimate retreat—airy and inviting, designed to accommodate both quiet gatherings and larger celebrations.

From the moment you step into the generous hallway, panoramic water views unfold in every direction, their shimmering reflections enhanced by the soft greenish hue of the Venetian plaster walls. A palette of light, tonal colors harmonize with the breezy Cape Cod landscaping, designed by Dan Solien, while natural materials and soft textures create a seamless dialogue between the interiors and the surrounding coastal beauty.

Fumed oak floors ground the space, their rich tones echoed in the light wood ceiling beams and open staircase. In the kitchen, charred black oak cabinetry offers a striking contrast, its sleek profile drawing the eye toward the expansive window views. The dining room is anchored by a true showstopper—a sculptural, hammered-metal chandelier by Spanish designer Nacho Carbonell, handcrafted in the Netherlands.

A curated collection of artwork infuses vibrant character throughout the home, including bold, large-format paintings by Maine artist Kathy Bradford. Just beyond the back windows, a bronze sculpture of a stylized horse by Deborah Butterfield, grazes in the landscaped surroundings, a whimsical detail that perfectly captures the joyful, artful spirit of this stunning waterfront retreat.
